📍 Afar, Ethiopia
Acid-yellow sulphur springs, salt terraces and mineral pools in one of the most otherworldly landscapes on Earth.
✨ The story
More than 100 metres below sea level, the Danakil Depression is among the hottest places on the planet. Its colours come from volcanic activity at Dallol, and Afar caravans still cut salt from the plain as they have for centuries.
