A Roman colonnade running toward the arch of Trajan, cut stone still holding the grid the city was laid out on nearly two thousand years ago.
✨ The story
Timgad was founded around AD 100 as a garrison town in the Aurès mountains, abandoned, and buried by sand for centuries — which is why so much of it survived. Today it is one of the most complete Roman street plans anywhere in the world.
